Nightmare Theatre logo 04_Set_2_1968

Second Nightmare Theatre set built in June of 1968 by Paul Johnson.

The door had a built in creaking sound (screen door springs running over hard wood blocks). The casket extended to the floor and was on casters. It was used for prop storage. The fireplace had a false back, so it could be used as an entrance to the set.

After the first time it aired, the station got a phone call from the head of the Funeral Director's Association, who was upset about someone selling the station a casket (a violation of their code of ethics). The call was put back to Jack DuBlon, who was doing a shift in the announcer’s booth. Jack told the caller (in Dr. Cadaverino’s voice) that no one sold it to us, but rather that the station had "dug it up". The caller was not amused. A representative later came to inspect the prop to make sure that none of their rules were violated!
