"Cartoon Alley" 1967 Sequence

In 1967, the staff of WITI-TV was looking for new ideas for its "Cartoon Alley" show. They recycled an idea that had been used in 1965 - a time machine. This time however, the machine would also send Barbara Becker and the Jack DuBlon puppets to various locations throughout the universe.

In January of 1967, Paul Johnson built the prop, which featured dials that lighted up, flashing lights, rotating barber poles, and built-in sound. (Johnson also built the sets used for the various locations.) Barbara Becker was pregnant with her first child at the time, and the loose costumes served to disguise the fact. The series of shows ran in February and March of 1967, and featured visits to:

North Pole

Corned Beef Isle

"Rocky", "Alice the Aligator", and Barbara Becker on "Corned Beef Isle", one of the "Sandwich Islands". The walkie-talkie was used to communicate with "Mr. Dinkfuzz" back in the studio.
